How to change the size of Windows XP Recycle Bin?

Do you know that can change the size of your Windows XP Recycle Bin? By default, Windows XP allocates 10% of your hard disk space for the Recycle Bin. Which mean if you have 60 GB hard disk, 6GB of the space are reserved for Recycle Bin usage. So, you can dump up to 6GB of digital rubbish into your Recycle Bin. With today’s large hard disks size, this could mean a lot of space. Imagine of if you have 100GB hard disk, 10GB (10% of hard disk space) could translate to a lot of space.

Good news is you can change the default setting set by Windows XP. Just follow the simple step below:

  1. Right click on Recycle Bin icon
  2. Select “Properties”
  3. You can see “Recycle Bin Properties” window with Windows XP default setting as below:
  4. From here, you can choose to configure the percentage of hard disk used independently or globally.
