Taiwan Earth Quake Caused Web Service Disruption in Asia

Mother nature striked again! This time in Taiwan. Last Tuesday, the 7.1 -magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan sparked widespread communication disruption on Wednesday across South-East and East Asia. According to AFP, Millions of people dependent on the internet for news, stock prices and email were reminded of life before the World Wide Web.

I was in my hometown Tumpat at  that time. Tumpat is a small but peaceful town in Kelantan, about 400 km from Penang. It has nice sandy beaches & most importantly good and unique foods. My house here only connected to dial-up connection. If those with ADSL connection experienced the extremely slow connection, you can imagine how mine gonna be. I can’t even launched my Telechart & most of the websites hosted in US.

I am back to Penang now but the connection speed is not up to the normal speed yet. But at least I can access & update my blog.

But the sad story that I don’t like to hear is lost of life. It was reported that 2 were killed and 42 people were injured in the incident. The Washington Post reported that two members of one family were killed when their four-storeys home collapsed in the souhtern Pintung County township of Hengchun.

My condolence to the those who lost their loved one! May their soul rest in peace.
